On November 26th, the White House announced a proposed rule to expand coverage for obesity medications under Medicare and Medicaid. The proposed rule acknowledges obesity as a chronic condition, emphasizing that patients will require ongoing therapy, and proposes that medications used for weight loss or chronic weight management for treating obesity be covered. This is a long-overdue step toward ensuring equitable access to evidence-based obesity treatment. Public comment period ended Jan 27th.
